One of the most influential people working at Sanchez Energy Corp. isn’t from the oil industry. He’s from General Motors, the largest U.S. automaker and a company that has become fixated on finding new process efficiencies to help drive profits.
Sure, it’s an outside-the-box choice. But Tony Sanchez III, chief executive of the Houston oil company, hired GM’s director of production control to serve as Sanchez Energy’s director of supply chain and cost control because, in 40 years of hunting oil, the firm hasn’t encountered anything quite like the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas.
